The Basilica of Bom Jesus, considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is a 20-minute drive from our villas. This iconic monument contains the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier. Gilded altars and marble floors inlaid with precious stones will greet you at this 417-year-old basilica.

Continuing with the theme of beautiful architecture, SE Cathedral is a 20-minute drive away. Dedicated to St. Catherine, it has scenes from her life carved into six main panels. Other features include exquisitely gilded reredos and a rich golden bell, which is the largest and one of the most famous historical places in Goa. Speaking of bells, the Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception is graced with the 2nd largest bell in the state and a pair of distinct stairways in a symmetrical zigzag form. It is quite the beauty and definitely is one of the most treasured historical monuments of Goa.

Next on our list is the gothic church, Mae de Deus, which boasts its gothic spires and white walls, resembling that of a castle. It is a mere 10-minute drive away from V Escapes. Goa's Fort Aguada Lighthouse and Jail is crowned as a Monument of National Importance. This 17th-century citadel overlooks Sinquerim Beach and is rightly titled "Aguada," which means "watery" in Portuguese. The lighthouse is the oldest of its kind in Asia. Another beach overlooking the fort is Cabo de Rama. The legend says that Lord Rama and Sita took refuge here during their exile, hence the name Cape of Ram. Speaking of coastal forts, Mormugao Fort is yet another historical location that provides a fabulous view of the Arabian Sea.

Reis Magos Fort, a mere 15-minute drive away, sits at the mouth of the Mandovi estuary. It once served as a defensive wall against the Marathas and accommodation for the Viceroys. Chapora Fort, one of the most renowned historical places in North Goa, was popularised globally through the film “Dil Chahta Hain”. The fort was built by the Muslim ruler Adil Shah.

The basalt rock structure of Tambdi Surla Temple, built in the Kadamba style, has intricate carvings of elephants and lotus flowers. The Hindu temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and witnesses a heavy footfall from Hindu worshippers. The alluring Safa Shahouri Masjid, surrounded by a water tank and lush grasslands, is a Monument of National Importance in Goa. It is one of the well-known mosques that is beautified by lush gardens and fountains. Inside, the mosque sees a terracotta roof that declares itself as the prayer hall.
