Monsoon’s gone and it’s a great time to walk about. An even better time to walk about ‘tipsy’ in Fontainhas. Confused about what we’re talking about? Don’t worry, we’re about to make your Goa trip more buzzing ( pun intended ).
You may have been to Goa before, been to Panjim before, and even visited the colourful Latin quarters of Fontainhas before. But have you been to the new Fontainhas? Likely, not.
Here’s what’s new in Fontainhas -
Among the bright, old worldly Portuguese homes and local watering holes are new sights to sample, taste and behold. Upscale, trendy, dining hot spots have found their home in the old timey streets. It’s a dichotomy of contemporary and latter-days vibing together.
The best way to get around Fontainhas is on foot. Park your cars on the street and get strolling. Ideally, plan your next Goan weekend in Panjim to make life easier.
May we suggest Villa In Palms, in North Goa. The villa is located in a serene, private estate. And offers luxury chauffeur-driven Mercedes SUVs to pick you up and drop you off in style to wherever you want to go.
Fontainhas offers many cultural and heritage walks, but of late the most popular trek through the streets is the ‘Tipsy Tour of Fontainhas’.
The Tipsy Tour, we have discovered, is the most fun way to discover the new haunts of the Latin quarters.
Hosted by the flamboyant and charming Maanav Dev, the Tipsy Tour is a bar crawl that stops at multiple bars in Fontainhas like Miguel’s and The Outpost.
At each bar you’re served signature cocktails, tapas and there are fun games to keep you in high spirits all through the night. What’s more? Everything is included in the ticket price.
Get to know your stops, before the tour starts -
Miguel’s
The Outpost
The Outpost by Sly Granny is a quirky old-fashioned bar with contemporary food fare. The cocktail menu takes you back in time to a speakeasy and their food brings you back to the present day with their offerings of burgers and finger foods. This charming stop on the tour brings its own personality and a chance to get lost in an era long gone.
Your host Maanav Dev, is a former lawyer turned beach bum and F&B consultant. Follow this Pied Piper through the enchanting streets of Fontainhas, with his amusing anecdotes and wicked stories as he’ll lead you from one stop to the other on the Tipsy Tour.
Miski’s bar, Antonio’s and Joseph’s bar are some of the other popular local watering holes in these quarters. You can always swing by and sip with the locals before or after the Tipsy Tour is over. Or better yet, save these restaurants near Fontainhas for another day altogether.
If you stay in Assagao it will take you around 45 mins to drive to Fontainhas. Cut the commute with your booking at Villa In Palms. Word on the street is the VIP Experiences Manager knows about future Tipsy Tour dates before anyone else does and can score you tickets before you can even say ‘Bar Crawl’. Check out some of the other experiences the villa offers here and have a look at the gorgeous neotropical paradise here.
Apart from Casinos, posh new restaurants and local bars, Fontainhas also has unique and hidden gems to offer. Take it from us, dedicate a Goa weekend trip to Fontainhas and you won’t be disappointed. Soak in the culture, walk around from bar to bar in the Tipsy Tour, meet strangers and depart as friends with memories of an epic night shared together in the hush-hush eclectic streets of Goa’s hidden nightlife experience in the land of Fontainhas.
